Kansas at the Crossroads: Tax Burden vs. Property Rights!

By: Charlotte O’Hara

In Kansas abuse of power is demonstrated by both Democrats and Republicans in the taking of our property. This is done by taxing earned income, investment income, consumption (sales tax), real estate (property tax) and fees.

The hidden increase of these abuses of power have become extraordinarily draconian through inflation, especially in the value of real estate. We all see that each year our elected officials magically increase our property taxes and increase their tax coffers through higher property valuations.

Increase in property taxes hits all of us bute specially hard hit are those on fixed incomes as their disposable income shrinks with every tax increase. Each year elected officials decide to “allow” how much of YOUR money you, their constituents, (little difference to English subjects before the Revolutionary War) get to keep.

How to emerge from this conundrum of paying for ESSENTIAL services vs property rights (if those rights still exist)? This can only be solved with hard work to find efficiencies, cut waste and attack fraudin every nook and cranny. This includes education.

The bloated education bureaucracy is devouring over half our state and local tax revenue. Think of that, over 50% of our total tax revenue goes to education while test scores plummet. In our best schools (like Blue Valley) up to 58% of students are not proficient in the basics.  53% cannot adequately read and 58% are not proficient in math. This is morally bankrupt. While crushing the taxpayer withever higher taxes we are cheating our children out of basic skills.

President Trump is showing all of us the path to regain our property rights. Will Kansas follow suit? Or will Kansas (under both Democrats and Republicans) remain the high tax point on the prairie?

Creating tax havens in Kansas through corporate welfare/tax incentives (cutting the taxes for the rich) is not the answer. These policy choices increase taxes on the rest of us not profiting from “taxhavens”.  There must be equal protection under the law.

If the status quo continues, the out migrationfrom Kansas (tax refugees) to low tax states will accelerate and we will all suffer even more.
