Kansas Abortion Rights - Charlotte O'Hara for Governor

A Sobering Truth – – and A Call To Courage

By: Charlotte O’Hara

Life, the most precious gift we have and yet, not an easy topic because of the great divide between the pro-life and pro-choice folks here in Kansas. But it’s a conversation we cannot ignore.

I am pro-life.  After I filed for Olathe School Board in 1993, Tim Golba, one of the founders of Kansas for Life asked: “Are you pro-life?” That moment solidified my conviction that life begins at conception.

April 26, 2019, the Kansas Supreme Court found that the right of abortion was in the Kansas Constitution. One by one all of the pro-life legislation pretecting the unborn was dismantled (found unconstiutional) and in 2022 abortion on demand up to 22 weeks became a reality.  Now we must confront the consequences of Kansas being an abortion destination.

These are the grim statistics in the 2023 KDHE report:

  • 19,467 abortions in Kansas
  • 15,111 out-of-state women
  • 34,041 live births in Kansas
  • 57.1% abortion-to-live-birth ration

Adding to the heartbreak, girls ages 10–14 accounted for 36 abortions (23 out-of-state, 13 Kansas residents). These are children. Every abortion in this age group are proof of statutory rape, sexual abuse, or trafficking. Six were listed as reported—but I have found no indication of investigations or prosecutions. The silence from our Department of Children and Families and local prosecutors is deafening.

This should outrage every Kansan—pro-life and pro-choice alike. We cannot turn a blind eye when children are victimized and funneled through a system that treats their trauma as a medical procedure instead of a crime.

I am committed to being a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves and one major reason I am running for Kansas Governor. But I cannot do this alone.

👉 Please consider contributing $100 or more today so my voice can be heard on the KSGOP debate stage in January 2026. Walls built to silence truth cannot be allowed to stand.
