Incumbency Insanity, Keep Kansas Strong - Charlotte O'Hara for Governor

Incumbency Insanity

By: Charlotte O’Hara

Thursday evening, before I spoke at the Republican 3rd District Christmas Party, I listened to the stump speeches of Ty Masterson, Scott Schwab and Jeff Colyer. These three are the standard bearers for the status quo. They each touted their accomplishments as leaders of our state. I had to wonder:

  1. Why does Kansas hand out corporate welfare/tax incentives like candy?
In 2022, Governor Kelly praised and thanked Senate President Ty Masterson for fast tracking the APEX bill. This bill handed Panasonic an astonishing $829 million of-YOUR-tax-dollars!!
  2. How can a non-citizen be the mayor of Coldwater, Kansas?
This individual has allegedly voted in numerous elections while our Secretary of State, Scott Schwab, continues to tout Kansas election integrity. Mr. Schwab (one of my opponents) also ordered the destruction of Johnson County’s 2020 ballots in February 2024 even though they were evidence in an ongoing criminal investigation.
  3. Why is Kansas the High tax point on the prairie?
Republicans have controlled the House and Senate for decades, so why?  A brief history lesson: The Brownback and Colyer administration refused to roll back “the Sebelius one cent sales tax” because they “needed the money”. They also took a $31.5 million Early Innovator Grant to implement ObamaCare, which paid for and still pays for abortions. Then they joined other states in challenging the constitutionality of ObamaCare. The hypocrisy speaks for itself.

The power of incumbency is nothing new. I am reading Plutarch’s “Roman Lives”. Cato the Elder, born in 234 BC, criticized his fellow citizens for electing the same people repeatedly. He said “You will make people think that in your opinion either high office is virtually worthless, or there are virtually no people who are worthy of high office”.

There you have it, over 2,250 years ago in Rome, Cato the Elder was wrestling with the same issue that we are: entrenched, well financed politicians. Ours are financed heavily by those who are receiving corporate welfare/tax incentives.

The latest corporate welfare/tax incentive bill was passed by our REPUBLICAN SUPER MAJORITY led by Senate President, Ty Masterson, and was signed into law last April by Democrat Governor, Laura Kelly.  Are you noticing a pattern? The Masterson/Kelly Team?

This law exempts AI Data Centers from sales tax on construction materials and equipment. Meanwhile WE are hammered by HIGH sales tax, which in some shopping areas exceeds 10%.

In Bluhawk at 159th and Antioch, the sales tax rate is 10.85%. The standard rate in Overland Park is 9.35%.

Here is the goody package that Bluhawk received:

  1. 1.5% in sales tax increase is paid by you, YOU pay for the infrastructure costs and other development costs for the developer.
  1. In addition, Bluhawk developers received a $49 million Star Bond (developer’s debt) which is being repaid by YOUR sales tax dollars.

Merry Christmas to all those showered with OUR tax dollars: Panasonic, over $1 billion; Prairie Fire (I call it Prairie Not on Fire) nearly $65 million and in default; Fiserv, $154 million-they lost $30 billion in value on the stock exchange in October; De Soto’s AI Data Center-$50 billion in Industrial Revenue Bonds (IRBs); Cnano (Chinese company) $34 million in IRBs… the list goes on and on and on and on.

It is up to you to stop the incumbency insanity. You do have a choice. You can vote for me, Charlotte O’Hara. I will stop tax incentives and corporate welfare. I will lead the fight for election integrity. I will stand boldly for life by taking the following actions:

  1. Signing an Executive Order that requires all abortions on girls under sixteen to be reported and investigated. In 2023, according to the KDHE report, 36 abortions were performed on girls 10-14. Only 6 were reported. No information is available on investigations. Are we complicit in Child Sex Trafficking?
  1. Signing an Executive Order that bans all Medicaid dollars from going to Planned Parenthood and any other abortion facility.
