We the People vs. the Kansas Bar Association, Keep Kansas Strong - Charlotte O'Hara for Governor

We the People vs. the Kansas Bar Association

By: Charlotte O’Hara

Ah, the politics of the clergy avoiding and evading strong words from the pulpit on issues and or candidates on the ballot!! That is unless the clergy is left of center, the further left, the more vocal and bold!!

This conundrum for the conservative faithful seeking and hungering for boldness from the pulpit is finding relief in this desert of avoidance. Pastor Kyle Evans, 1st Baptist Church of Scott City, is finding voice and courage to stand and fight for an issue of grave importance on our August 4th primary ballot, the Constitutional Amendment for the direct election of our State Supreme Court Justices.

Pastor Evans is working with me and many others across Kansas to spread the word to his congregation and other pastors on the absolute necessity of Christians registering and voting YES, August 4th, on the direct election of our State Supreme Court Justices.

And I am finding many more pastors willing to stand, work and preach from the pulpit this call to action. Pastor Randy Woods in Franklin (just north of Pittsburg) and Pastor Aaron Polok in Galina are two more standing strong.

But why should the clergy both Protestant and Catholic, work for the passage of this Constitutional Amendment? Because over 3,500 years ago God forbade the Children of Israel from passing their babies through the fire of Moloch, in sacrifice to this pagan god. Yes, we are facing that same horror with the right of abortion found by our current Kansas Supreme Court in our 1861 Kansas Constitution. Where, you might ask? In Section One of our Bill of Rights under Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

How has this happened? The left has control over our State Supreme Court because of the current selection committee model. There are 9 people on the selection committee and 5 of the members are attorneys, chosen by the Kansas Bar Association. Cozy right?? With this built in majority, the Kansas Bar Association chooses the 3 candidates the setting governor must select from to fill vacancies on the State Supreme Court.

I am thrilled that the Protestant clergy are awakening to the call for action. However, Archbishop Shawn McKnight, Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas and leader of the Kansas Catholic clergy, has yet to publicly endorse the Constitutional Amendment. Indications are that he may simply not oppose the amendment. I prayerfully hope the Archbishop will follow Archbishop Emeritus Joseph Naumann’s past leadership and strongly support this pro-life Constitutional Amendment.

So, here is my ask of YOU, please contact your pastor or priest and ask them to stand and support the Constitutional Amendment for direct election of our State Supreme Court Justices. We the People must wrest control from the strangle hold that the Kansas Bar Association has of who serves on our state’s highest court.

In addition, Catholics please call the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas (913-721-1570) and ask that Archbishop Shawn McKnight publicly support the direct election of our State Supreme Court Justices AND that he allow and encourage the distribution in all Catholic Parishes of KFL’s voter guide, highlighting the Constitutional Amendment.

The need for courage is here and the choice is clear, either we, along with our pastors and priests, strongly support and WORK for the direct election of our State Supreme Court Justices or we will be responsible in allowing the continuation of the left leaning Kansas Bar Association’s control of who serves on our highest court in Kansas.

Time is short and the need is great.

God Bless, Keep your Eyes on Jesus!!!
